Sunrise or sunset photography

Sunrise or sunset photography catches the eye by exceptional colors and powerful chromatic contrasts.

Usually, the most interesting photos are those where a large part of the frame is occupied by the sun. The point where the sun sets is best seen when this phenomenon takes place on the surface of water: on a lake or even on the sea. The sun is frequently used as the artistic element of a landscape, or it may even become the main subject of the photo. We usually take photos using the light given by the sun rays, but in this case we have to take photos of the solar disk itself. During the day, it is almost impossible to take pictures in the sun’s direction, but when the sun gets close to the horizon and it begins to set down, its color temperature changes from yellow to dark red. The energy flux of the rays decreases, one of its parts being the visible light itself. Such a combination of parameters offers the unique chance of taking pictures of the sun. However, there are some aspects that you should take into account.

The sunset on the sea is wonderful, and the sunset above the horizon line might get a mysterious hue. That sunset where you can only see the sun and the sky fascinates by its color scale, nevertheless the photo might give a strange impression to the viewer. During the sunset, the sun may be a little blurred, which will emphasize the effect of the rays and, at the same time, will create the sensation of larger sun dimensions. It is the reflected light that creates an effect of larger dimensions.

Depending on the place where you are standing, the diurnal light color will sooner or later turn into the sunset purple. At the tropics, the sunset is much faster, while in the northern lands it is much slower.
